Citrus Variety Scores

  1. I took a closer look at the completed ratings you have for 14 varieties of citrus. Well done! Appreciate the time and thought you have put into this. Its a pretty good set of categories and ratings that already seems useful to me — understanding degrees of trifoliate resin flavors compared to others all in one place. A lot of considerations made. Zest is an interesting category.

I do think tree hardiness has value as a non-rated category (an attribute). This way you can sort citrus scores by hardiness brackets. What are the tastiest citrus you can grow in regions with 0-5F minimum lows? What about 5-10F? 10-15F?

Trifoliate orange is down there at the lowest overall score — where I think it should be. Nice. I suppose I’ll have to get a Keraji mandarin/sweet lemon now.

You already have a great data set. Please keep it up for all the cold hardy citrus enthusiasts out there.

    1. Thank you for the feedback! It took a while to get it figured out and there’s always room for improvement. I agree, hardiness data in combination with taste test data could really drive people in the right direction. I might make a separate post in the future comparing the two. There’s definitely an inverse correlation between hardiness and flavor, but there are also outliers along the way (both good and bad). The addicting challenge of cold hardy citrus is finding those good outliers!
